Journalism and Mass Communication
The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication was established in the year 2016 with the initiative taken by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Shivanand B HosamaniandRegistrar Dr. Siddu P. Algur. It was the biggest dream to begin the department in RCU by these eminent personalities of the university. The Department was established to facilitate students of Vijayapur, Bagalkot and Belagavi district to specialize in the field of Mass Communication.VISION The Department aims to contribute to the society through imparting a dynamic flair for writing, creative bent of mind, nose for news, adept in photo and video editing as well as innovative and professional use of the mass media. To empower young minds to achieve excellence and commitment to disseminate value based information for nation building.
MISSIONThis post-graduate JMC program will help students to develop ethical, well rounded, responsible and talented professionals, who would manage and lead media organizations using analytical, innovative, creative and out‐of‐the‐box approaches.The program’s objective is to produce graduates with knowledge in journalism and mass communication, preparing them to be leaders in media and communication sectors.
ACTIVIES OF THE DEPARTMENT
- Interenship: After finishing the final semester’s exam students are assigned to different media houses for one month to gain handful experience.
- Communication club: Interaction with experienced journalist from different media.
- Visit to media houses: Local television channels, press houses and Radio stations.
- RCUDhwani: Student’s experimental newspaper.
- Teach Software: Adobe audition, Indesign, Adobe premiere pro, Coral draw, Adobe after effects, Photoshop

Journalism Candidates: Candidates who have passed the bachelor’s degree with 50 percent of marks (40% in case of SC/ST & Cat I and 45% for OBC candidates) in the aggregate of all the examinations of the degree in the optional subjects of Journalism shall be eligible for admission. Non-Journalism Graduates: Candidates who have passed the bachelor’s degree examination of Rani Channamma University, Belagavi or any other University recognized as equivalent with 50 percent of marks (40% in case of SC/ST & Cat I and 45% for OBC candidates) in the aggregate of all the subjects including the languages are eligible as per the Rani ChannammaUniversity rules.
