• School of Mathematics and Computing Sciences:

    The School of Mathematics and Computing Sciences comprises of Mathematics and Computer Science Departments. The school provides a solid foundation to students in the field of Mathematics and Computer Science through its post graduate programs offered by respective Departments, under CBCS scheme, with opportunities for teaching, research, and entrepreneurship. The faculty is actively engaged in research with significant contribution in the fields of Number Theory and Computing, Differential Geometry, Fluid Mechanics, Topology, Graph Theory, Image Processing and Pattern Recognition, Web Mining, and Information retrieval.

    About the Department:

    The Department of Computer Science was established in the year 2011 under School of Mathematics and Computing Sciences. Presently, there are 6 permanent teaching faculty actively engaged in teaching and research. The Department offers two post graduate programmes, MSc. (Computer Science) and MCA, and Doctoral research programme at main campus, Belagavi. From the design of curriculum to applied research, the department equips the students with the knowledge and state-of-the-art skills that enable them to excel in their chosen professions. Karnataka State Vision Group of Computer Science (VGST) has sanctioned financial assistance of Rs. 20 lakh per annum for continuous two years, in the level –II category, under K-Fist scheme to strengthen the infrastructural facility of the Department.

  • Dr. Siddu P. Algur   Professor

    His research interest includes Data Mining, Web Mining, and Information Retrieval from the web and Knowledge discovery techniques. He has published 26 research papers in peer reviewed International Journals and chaired the sessions in many International conferences. He delivered many invited talks at National and International conferences/seminars. He is Instrumental in establishment of Computer Laboratory for PG and Ph.D Programmes in Computer Science at RCU, Belagavi, funded by VGST, K-FIST (L2), GoK, Bangalore. He received B.E. in E&E., M.E in ISE and obtained Ph.D. degree in Computer Science. He worked as a Lecturer in the Department of E & E at KLECET, Belagavi, from 1986 to 1992. As a Lecturer and Assistant Professor at SDMCET, Dharwad from 1992 to 2007. He worked as a Professor and Head, Department of ISE at BVBCET, Hubli, from 2007 to 2012. Presently, Prof. Siddu P. Algur also holds post of Director, PG Programmes, RCU, Belagavi.

    Dr. G. G. Rajput    Associate Professor

    Dr. G G Rajput is presently Chairman of the Department. His education include degrees M.Sc.(Maths), MSc(IT), M.Phil(Maths), PGDCA, and PhD(Maths). He has 16 years of teaching experience in Mathematics and Computer Science. He has more than 30 publications in the areas of image processing and pattern recognition. He has completed one UGC sponsored Major Research Project entitled ”A Study on Automatic Detection of Diabetic Retinopathy using Fundus Images”. Three scholars have been awarded Ph.D. degree and 7 students have been awarded M.Phil. degree under his guidance and at present 6 students are pursuing Doctoral research.

    Dr. Dayanand G. Savakar   Associate Professor

    He has obtained his B E in Computer Science & Engineering, Masters degree in Software Systems and Ph.D in Computer Science & Engineering in the year 1990, 1997 and 2010 respectively. He worked as faculty in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. B. L. D. E. A’s V. P Dr. P. G. Halakatti. College of Engineering &Technology, Bijapur-586103 in various designations from 1991 to 2013. His` research area of interest is Image Processing and Pattern Recognition. He has published more than 25 research papers in peer reviewed International Journals and Conferences.

    Dr. Shivanand Gornale   Associate Professor

    He has obtained M. Sc. Degree in Computer Science., M.Phil. in Computer Science., Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Pune in 1995, 2003 and 2009 respectively. He has teaching experience of 18 years and published more than 60 research papers in various National, International Journals and conferences. He is a Fellow of IETE, Life Member of CSI, Life Member IPRA, Life Member of Indian Science Congress Association, Kolkata-India. His areas of research interest are Biometrics, Image Processing and Pattern Recognition.

    Dr. Parashuram Bannigidad   Assistant Professor

    He has obtained M.Sc. (Information Technology) Degree in 2003, M.Phil. (Computer Science) Degree in 2006 and Ph.D. (Computer Science) Degree in 2012. He has teaching and research experience of 08 years. His research areas of interest are Image Processing and Pattern Recognition. He has published 27 research papers in peer reviewed International Journals and Proceedings of Conferences. He has been awarded ‘Young Scientist’ from Vision Group on Science and Technology, Dept. of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Dept. of Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka.

    Dr. Mallamma.V. Reddy    Assistant Professor

    Dr. (Smt.) Mallamma.V. Reddy has received her Ph.D programme in the area of Knowledge Based Algorithms for Multilingual Cross Language Information Retrieval from Bangalore University, Bangalore, and M.C.A degree from Visvesvaaraya Technological. University, Belgaum, India. She has over 4 years of teaching (Post graduate and undergraduate) as well as industry experience. Her research interest includes Natural Language Processing, Data Mining, Graphics and Cross Language Information Retrieval. She has awarded as “Young Scienst-2013” by ISCA, and “Astar-Scholastic Young Investigator award” by IOAJ. She was also a project fellow of UGC –Major Research Project; she has published 21 research papers in National and International journals and Conferences.

    T.R.Arunkumar    Assistant Professor

    He has obtained his B E in information Science & Engineering, M.Tech in Computer Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. He started his career as trainee engineer at HP and has worked at various MNC like Xalted Information Systems, IBM and Tech Mahindra, dealing various clients such as AT&T and British Telecom by offering innovative Solution Designs.

    TitleMaster of Computer Applications (MCA)
    Scope Focuses on Information Technology to equip students with the latest technologies, tools and applications in IT and to meet the ever-growing requirement of IT professionals. The programme involves study of Financial Management, Accounting, Mathematics, Programming Languages like C, Java, ASP .Net, Web Development, Database Management System, and so on to enable student to develop, deploy and manage applications/systems of Industries/Institutions.
    Eligibility A candidate who has passed any under graduate examination or equivalent examination with Mathematics or Statistics or Computer Science or Computer Applications or Business Mathematics or Business Statistics as one of the optional subject and obtained an aggregate minimum of 50% marks taken together in all the subjects in all the years is eligible for admission to MCA courses. 45% of marks in both Q. E. in case of SC, ST and Category-I candidates. Provided that in respect of candidate who has studied and passed one of the subjects specified above in Pre-University Course with fifty percent of marks in that subject shall also be considered for admission. 45% of marks in both Q.   • Resources: 

    The Department of Computer Science maintains a dedicated computing and network infrastructure to support its academic and research mission. The department also provides access to its computing resources to other Departments in the University. The Network has a backbone operating at 2 Gbps and spans entire building to provide network services (both switched and wifi) to all the Departments in the University. Two computer laboratories have been set up under VGST K-FIST grant of GoK. There are 40 personal computers with state of art specifications connected to the network and are accommodated with printing needs. Class-rooms are well equipped with LCD projectors.
