• Name of the Course: Master of Social Work (MSW)

    Background:
    Department of Social Work of Rani Channamma University, Belagavi has been growing from strength to strength right from its inception in the year 2005 as part of the then P.G. Centre of Karnatak University, Dharwad. Presently, the Course offered through its main campus and P.G. Centres in Bijapur and Bagalkot has carved a unique niche for itself in the higher education scenario in the region through its well-qualified faculty, practice-based curriculum, innovative pedagogy, and socially-responsive extension programs.

    Vision:
    Department of Social Work of Rani Channamma University, Belagavi shall groom generations of world-class professional social workers by imparting most significant knowledge, skills, attitude and values aimed at individual, group and societal wellness.

    Mission:
    To evolve best practices in the areas of social work education, research, publication, extension and consultancy services in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organizations to ensure sustainable, just, equitable and humane development.

    Objectives:

    • To impart quality social work education through a participatory pedagogical strategy that combines classroom learning with equally productive fieldwork practicum.
    • To conceptualise and conduct interdisciplinary research, in partnership with various stakeholders, to produce socially significant knowledge.
    • To document, analyse and disseminate socially relevant knowledge through appropriate media so that social consciousness is created and raised to nobler levels.
    • To design and execute extension programs oriented towards social justice, human rights and sustainable development in order to inculcate leadership qualities in the students and to make them contribute innovatively to socially productive work.
    • To be recognized as a consultancy centre by the Governmental and Non-governmental agencies to design and carry out their projects and plans in the most professional manner.

    In concurrent fieldwork programme, four hours of fieldwork is equated to one hour of    theory class as it is conducted in the community setting and not in the University premises. 

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

  • Research:

    Faculty of the Department of Social Work has initiated the process of preparing and submitting research project proposals on significant issues pertaining to social development. Their areas of research interest are social action, women and empowerment, leisure and gender, quality of work life, quality of education, holistic health, gerontology and corporate social responsibility.

    The Department plans to set new standards in social work research by entering into MoUs with institutes with complementary research expertise so that cutting-edge research knowledge is produced and disseminated in this part of the globe.

    The Department hopes to make available its consultancy services to various organizations in the development sector in carrying out action research and evaluative studies so that they are able to achieve greater effectiveness and efficacy.

  • Department of Social Work of Rani Channamma University, Belagavi has been conducting the following activities as part of its co-curricular and extra-curricular initiatives:

    • Setting-up ‘Counseling and Guidance Centre’
    • Establishing ‘Community Development Cell’
