Background : The undivided Vijayapur district is widely dotted with numerous spectacular indo-Islamic monuments of great architectural splendor belonging to Adil Shahi region. In a peripheral of few kilometers, the great centers namely, Ihole, Pattadakal and Badami are situated and all are known for their grandeur and beauty enhancing the kind of Indian temples all over the world. These are richly ornate with enhancing spectaculars. The Karnataka University Dharawad decided to start Post graduate Centre in the year 1993 keeping requisitions of people of this region. The university introduced one year P G Diploma in Art History and P G Diploma in Tourism in the year 1993. Initially the center commenced its functioning in BLDEA's college campus by the courtesy of the BLDE Association and continued till 2001.
The Karnataka University Dharawad purchased 206 acres of land and got constructed there buildings next to Toravi village. Then the center shifted to the newly build campus. Meanwhile, the government of Karnataka requested the Karnataka University Dharwad to hand over this 206 acres of land with its buildings to the newly started Karnataka State Women’s University- Vijayapur in the year 2004-thus the request was full field and by which the university played a major role and sacrificed a lot for the development of the Karnataka State Women’s University- Vijayapur in general and women in particular. In this light Karnataka University Dharawad again purchased 31 acres of land and got constructed two buildings to start the academic activities in the present campus.
The government of Karnataka has decided to encourage higher education in North Karnataka and its surrounding districts mainly, Belagavi, Bagalkot and Vijayapur by granting a new university in the year 2010 led to the birth of Rani Channamma University, Belagavi and Now P G Halakatti Post Graduate Centre is part of the Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. Presently the Centre is offering two years postgraduate courses in History and Archeology, Social Work, English, Commerce, Kannada and Computer Science along with one year PG Diploma course in Tourism. Our Library functions as the primary information resource Centre and repository of all printed and e-resources for teaching and research activities. Apart from textbooks and recommended reading material prescribed for each course, the library houses a growing collection of research monographs, reports, multi-volume reference works, dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, and so on.
