The department of Library and Information Science started during the academic year 2011-12
as a new addition to the School of Applied Sciences, RCU Belagavi. The Department offers a
professional two years Master’s Degree Programme (MLISc) and a PhD degree programme
in Library and Information Science. The MLISc programme designed to match the
requirements of academia and industries, imparting knowledge and skill sets required for the
emerging information society and preparing the next generation of information professionals.

DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE
of Science in Library and Information Science (MLISc) is a two year
integrated professional program. There is a great demand for library
profession in the job market. MLISc postgraduates get placed as Librarians,
Information Scientist, Knowledge Manager, Technical Editors, Consultants,
etc. Those who qualify UGC-NET or SLET examination can enter academics as
Assistant Professor or Assistant Librarian of a University or College. Those
who qualify UGC-JRF can also pursue research in the field of library and
information science with UGC fellowship
course duration is of two years and comprises four semesters. Candidates who
have passed any Bachelor’s Degree examination from a recognized university
under 10+2+3 system and who have secured at least 50% of marks in aggregate
in Part III (main subjects) are eligible to apply for seeking admission to
this course. In the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category,
relaxation in the percentage of marks shall be as per the university
Guidelines issued from time to time.

Prof. Vinayak M. Bankapur:
Professor, presently serving as a Head of the Department in the Department of Library and Information Science at Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. He did his Master's degree for Documentation Training and Research Centre (DRTC) Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore in the year 1989 and Ph.D. Library and Information Science from Karnatak University, Dharwad 1998. He has experience of 22 years in Library and Information Science. He was instrumental in framing the Vision and Mission statement for the department of LIS conducting three seminars and edited three books. He has to his credit 60 research articles published in national and international journals/conferences /Seminars. He is good at Infographics and won 2nd prize in IOS Conference held in 2017 in Bangalore. He is also the Chief Editor of the Journal of Library Development. He is a Life Member of SIS, Members of AKLEPA, and member of IATLIS, Institute of Scientometrics (IS), a member of the ILA. He is creative has contributions in developing Digital Libraries and Architecture. His areas of specialisationareScientometrics, Observometrics, and Management of Library and Information Centres. He has delivered a special lecture in Universities and Institutions on the various facets of Library and Information Science in Refresher Courses held at Bangalore University, Goa University, and the University of Mysore (UOM). Other activities in the University - he is a nodal officer for Developing University Website and created webmail for all faculty members. He is the nodal officer for the National Academic Depository (NAD), University Librarian, and Academic Council Member of the university. He is the founder of HUDALNET.
Dr. Maranna. O:
Professor,Presently serving as the Professor in the Department of Library Science, Rani Channamma University. Before this assignment, he served as an Assistant Librarian, at the Field Marshal K.M.Cariappa College, a constituent college of Mangalore University, Mangaluru. He Graduated and Post-Graduated from Kuvempu University, Shimoga. His research work on “Use of E-resources and Services by marine Scientists in South India” was awarded a Ph.D., by the Kuvempu University. He has rich teaching experience at Post Graduate Level and awarded “Best Teacher” from Mangalore University in association with the ‘Karnataka State SC/ST Library Professionals Association’. Dr.Maranna is the author of three books and also authored more than 40 research articles that are published in National and International journals, conferences and seminar proceedings. He has presented more than 30 research works, invited talks at various national seminars, conferences workshops. One student awarded Ph.D. under his guidance and five research scholars pursuing a doctoral degree. His areas of interest being User Studies, Special Library Systems, Information Systems. He is a member of KALA, IATLIS, ILA. He served the University in various capacities such as Assistant Registrar and presently he is serving as a Deputy Registrar in the DPAR section, additional Charge.
Dr. Kiran P. Savanur,
presently working as an Assistant Professor, Department of Studies & Research in Library and Information Science, Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. Before this assignment, he served Raman Research Institute, Bangalore founded by Sir. C. V. Raman as a Library Asst. He hails from Dharwad District of Karnataka State. He did his Graduate in Science and Post – Graduate in Library & Information Science from Karnatak University, Dharwad. He has undergone a training program in “Information and Knowledge Management” (IKM) training at the ‘National Centre for Science Information’ (NCSI), Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bengaluru. His research work on “Eugene Garfield: A Biobibliometric Study” was awarded a Ph.D. by Karnatak University, Dharwad. He has rich teaching experience at the Post-Graduate level. Dr. Kiran Savanur authored more than 50 research articles that are published in National and International peer-reviewed journals, seminar & conference proceedings, book chapters. He is the recipient of the “Best Research Paper” award at the “National Conference on Scientometrics and Knowledge Management”, held at KUD in April 2013. Major areas of interest are – Bibliometric & Scientometrics, Digital Library, Open Access resources, User Studies, and Information Systems. He is carried out two Minor Research Projects funded by ICSSR, New Delhi and RCUB respectively. Four research scholars are pursuing a doctoral degree under his Guidance. He has presented more than 30 special and invited lectures as a Resource Person to various conferences, seminars, and workshops. He is a member of professional bodies like KALA, ILA, and IATLIS
Mr. Ramesh B. Kuri,
obtained his Master’s in Library and Information Science from Karnatak University, Dharwad in 2007 and qualified UGC-NET in 2009. He has completed M.Phil. from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad in 2011, and Ph.D. from Rani Channamma University, Belagavi in 2020. He is currently, working as Assistant Professor, Department of studies and research in Library and Information Science, Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. He has more than 12 years of professional experience and has held various positions. Mr. Ramesh Kuri was trained at Tata Memorial Library, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, and served as Project Assistant at Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, IISc Bangalore, Assistant Librarian at central library of Karnatak University Dharwad, and Librarian at Jain College of Engineering & Management, Belagvi. Mr. Kuri specializes in Academic Library, Web Technology, Library Automation, e-resources, Bibliometrics, Users use studies etc. Mr. Kuri has delivered invited lectures at schools, colleges, and universities and has published 60 research papers in national and international peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, and book chapters. He has been sanctioned two minor research projects, funded by PMEB, Rani Channamma University Belagavi. He is a life member of IATLIS, ILA, KULISA, and RCUAA associations.

The Department of Library and Information Science under mutual understanding with the Department of Computer Science of our university dedicated computer and network infrastructure to support its Academics and Research. The network has a backbone operating at 2Gbps and spans the entire building to provide network services (both switched and Wi-Fi) to all the Departments in the University. There are 65 Computers with state-of-art specifications connected to the network accommodated with printing needs.
