ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

      Rani Channamma University as a new University embarked on an ambitious plan of creating Centre of Excellence in several applied and professional fields of higher education. One such venture is the creation of School of Criminology and Criminal (SCCJ) in the year 2011 to train high quality Professional manpower for combating the growing menace of different types of crimes, children conflicting with law and other new forms of anti-social and anti-national behavior in the country. The founding Director Dr.S.M.Jaamdar, former Principles Home Secretary, Government of Karnataka put lot of his efforts to establish the School under his abled leadership. He is credited to formulate the syllabi of UG and PG and trained the newly appointed faculty members.
The faculty members have been continuously involved in research activities on different social issues of crimes, criminal activities and criminal behavior, policing, prevention, detection, prison and correctional administrations, delinquency, correctional social work, security management and cybercrime issues etc with significant contribution to the field.
The faculty members have also been successfully writing proposals under different schemes to ICSSR/UGC New Delhi to organize national conferences, seminars as well as research projects under IMPRESS-ICSSR, New Delhi.
The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice offers fiver UG and PG (3+2=5 years) programme which is unique in the country. The subject also offers Ph.D Programme. Presently, there are 4 permanent teaching faculty members actively engaged in teaching and research activities.
The subject of Criminology and Criminal Justice covers all major specializations in the field. It is a professional course with emphasis on development of necessary skills for Criminological professions-police, prisons, corrections, juvenile institutions, probation, private security management, private detective works, forensic science experts in finger prints and questioned documents.
In each semester, the field work placement is compulsory in different criminology and criminal justice related agencies to give them first-hand information. Students have also been trained Police Science and Forensic Science Practicals in the Laboratory- Like, Fingerprints, Questioned Documents, Hair and Fibre Examinations, Blood Test Examinations, Footprints and Simulated Scene of Crimes of Homicidal, Suicidal and Accidental etc.
Since the Research Dissertation Projects are compulsory for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree in Sixth and Fourth Semesters respectively, the courses of Research Methodology, Statistical Application and use of computers is being taught. The Research Dissertation Projects helps students to gain experience in the application of Research methodology and Statistical Application concepts to the chosen problem.

To impart the skills of teaching, training, consultancy and research to empower in criminological professions-police, private detective work, juvenile and adult corrections, Criminal Justice, forensic science and research methodology.


The Mission Statement :



The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice shall produce young professional leaders with an academic instruction and training in all inter-connected sub-disciplines of Criminology and Criminal Justice. Criminology, Penology (including Correctional Administration), Victimology (including Victim Assistance and Victim Compensation), Police Science (including Police Administration), Forensic Sciences, Criminal Law and Jurisprudence, Applied criminological research and Teaching.
