ABOUT: Department of Chemistry was established in the year 2011 and offers M.Sc. & Ph.D. in CHEMISTRY. There are 6 permanent faculty members with excellent teaching and research experience. The present intake for M.Sc. course is 45 and the admission is based on the merit cum roster system as per Govt. of Karnataka. The syllabus (CBSC Scheme) is on par with the curriculum framed in the best universities. The students will be trained and motivated to do their academics in the best possible manner. The board of studies (BOS) and Board of examiners (BOE) of the Dept. takes care of continuous upgradation of the syllabus and evaluation process. The campus interview is arranged for the outgoing students. Many of our students have cleared NET/SET and other competitive examinations and well placed in academic /research institute and industries. The Ph.D. candidates are admitted based on the merit cum roster as per the RCU norms. Most of the Research scholars are working on full time basis in the lab of respective Research guides. University provide the Fellowship for OBC and SC/ST students as per Govt. of Karnataka norms. All the faculty members are recognized as Research Guides and working on excellent research programmes in many branches of Chemistry. In additional to internal funding for Chemicals, Glasswares/ Minor Equipment’s, the external funding through Research Projects is mobilized to equip the Dept. with required Instrumental facilities (XRD, FTIR, ED-XRF, TG/DSC, GC, ED-XRF, UV-Vis spectrophotometer, Photo catalytic reactors etc. are available in the Department). M.Sc. in CHEMISTRY
Eligibility
Bachelor degree in Science or equivalent degree with Chemistry as one of the subjects. The candidate should have obtained at least 40% of marks in optional subjects as well as in aggregate. Relaxation in respect of SC/ST/Cat -I etc. will be followed as per prevailing rules of the university

The admission shall be made as per the Reservation policy and directions issued in this regard from time to time by the Government of Karnataka & RCU.

Ph.D. in CHEMISTRY
Master degree in Chemical Sciences and its equivalent subjects. Candidates who have secured at least 55% of aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/Cat-1/Physically challenged) in their Master’s Degree from any UGC recognized Universities/ Institutions.
Minimum of THREE years and Maximum of 5 years for Full-Time Candidates/ Minimum of FOUR years and Maximum of 6 years for Part-Time Candidates
Prof. Basavaraj Padmashali, Professor & Registrar: Prof. Basavaraj Padmashali has excelled in his academic career and obtained MSc degree in the year 1997 securing first rank with gold medal from Gulbarga university. He has qualified SLET examination in his first attempt and immediately joined Sahyadri college, Kuvempu University as a lecturer in 1998. Prof Basavaraj Padmashali has vast teaching, research experience over more than 22 years and he has been an excellent teacher in organic chemistry. He has obtained PhD degree from Kuvempu University and more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed papers and two patents. He has also written book chapters and text books for undergraduate students. Prof Padmashali Basavaraj has given invited talks in various international/national conferences and seminars. He has successfully guided 10 students for PhD and 08 students are currently working under his supervision. He is also active in securing research grants from various funding agencies like UGC, DST, BRNS and VGST. He has initiated national/international research collaboration He was instrumental in organising various international/national conferences/seminars and workshops. He has won various awards and honors in his career. Prof Basavaraj has decorated various positions in Rani Channamma University as well as other universities. Prof. J. Manjannna: He obtained M.Sc. in Chemistry (1995) & Ph.D. in Industrial Chemistry (2001) from Kuvempu Univ. He worked in BARC, Mumbai under BRNS Project during his Ph.D. degree and then as K S Krishnan Research Associate (2002-2004). He moved to Japan as a Postdoctoral researcher (2004-2010) with JSPS and JST Fellowship at Hokkaido University., Iwate Univ., and Univ. of Tokyo. He joined Kuvempu University in Jan 2010 as Assistant Professor in the Dept of Industrial Chemistry & worked as a Coordinator for Nanoscience & Technology (M.Tech.) programme. He moved to RCU in Sept 2013 as Associate Professor of Chemistry and then became a Professor since Sept 2016. He teaches Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry & Spectroscopy aspects to M.Sc. students & supervising Ph.D. Scholars working on material chemistry aspects including nanomaterials for energy devices, environmental remediation and biomedical applications. He has published over 90 Int. journal papers & three patents. Presently, his citations are about 2260& h-index-27 (as on July 2021). He has received research funding from BRNS/DAE, DST and VGST. Dr.K. KANTHARAJU: Dr. K. Kantharajuhas obtained Master of Science (Organic Chemistry) and Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry, from Bangalore University in the year 2000 and 2006 respectively. He worked as an Executive Research & Development @ Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Ahmedabad. He as a DBT-postdoc fellow @ Molecular Biophysics Unit, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore under the supervision of Prof. P. Balaram, later he moved to NIH-postdoc researcher at Drexel University College of Medicine, Philadelphia, USA, after his return from postdoc joined NITK-Surthakal as an ad-hoc faculty at department of chemistry. Since from August 2013 working as an Associate Professor in the School of Basic Sciences: Department of Chemistry and having 20 years of teaching and research experiences. He has many honours & awarded for his credit namely, UGC-meritorious scholarship for 79th rank in B.Sc. Second rank in M.Sc. organic chemistry, CSIR-NET-LS (2000), DBT-Postdoc fellowship, NIH-Postdoc fellowship, VGST-SMYSR & twice Vice-Chancellor appreciation. He has published more than 45 research papers in the peer reviewed national and international journals, and proceedings of conferences with one US patent, and presented more than 80 papers in national and international conference & delivered 26 invited talks at various scientific events. He has completed three major/minor projects sanctioned from UGC-MRP, VGST & RCUB. His research interest includes Development of greener method in organic synthesis, Chemical Biology, Peptides and peptidomimetics chemical synthesis, Membrane nanocomposites, discovery/SAR studies, Protein –ligand interaction studies and Organic molecules structural study using NMR and X-ray. His teaching topics for M.Sc.programme covers organic chemistry, Analytical chemistry and spectroscopy topics. He reviewed various International Journals and Life Member of IPS and ISC. Dr. P. M. Gurubasavaraj: Prabhuodeyara M Gurubasavaraj obtained MSc in Inorganic Chemistry and MPhil in Coordination Chemistry at Gulbarga University, Gulbarga and obtained PhD degree (Magna Cum Laude) from Georg-August University, Gottingen, Germany under the supervision of well-known organometallic pioneer, Prof. Herbert W Roesky. After his PhD, he has been selected for the prestigious Japan Society Promotion of Science (JSPS) fellowship and worked at Nara Institute of Science and Technolgy, Nara, Japan. He then moved to University of Rochester, New York, USA to work in NIH sponsored project on bioinorganic chemistry. After returning from US, he briefly worked as Assistant Lecturer at NIT-Surathkal before joining Rani Channamma University in 2013. He is the first faculty member from RCU to get Raman Fellowship to visit Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Chicago USA for 6 months. He has won various awards and honours in his career so far; UGC-NET Lectureship award (2000), Fellowship from Georg-August University, Germany, JSPS postdoctoral fellowship from Japan (2008), Raman Visiting Fellowship from India (2015), Young Scientist Award (VGST-SMYSR, 2015) from Government of Karnataka, Vice-Chancellor Appreciation Award (2016) Appreciation letters from Japan Government (2018 & 2019), and was Listed in Marques Who’s Who World in 2011. Dr. M. B. Sridhara: Dr. M.B. Sridhara completed M.Sc. degree with First Class in Chemistry (Organic Chemistry) during 2002 and obtained Ph.D. degree in Chemistry in 2008 from University of Mysore, Mysuru. He was awarded JRF (2003-2005) and SRF (2005-2006) Fellowship from University of Mysore, Mysore. He was worked as a Lecturer in PG Department of Chemistry, V.V. Pura College of Science, Bangalore from 2007 to 2008. Later, he was also worked as HOD of Organic Chemistry, PG Department of Chemistry and Organic Chemistry at BET Academy of Higher Education, Bharathi Nagara, Maddur Taluk, Mandya District from 2008-2011. He was Awarded UGC-Post Doctoral Fellowship and worked at Department of Chemistry, University of Mysore during 2011-2013. Since 2013, he is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and having more than 10 years of teaching and 12 years of research experience. He teaches organic chemistry and spectroscopy to M.Sc., Students and supervising Ph.D. scholars. He has published 20 research papers in peer reviewed international and national journals of high repute and more than 27 research articles presented at various national and international conferences/Symposium/Seminar. C, Assistant Professor (Research on Green Energy: Solar Cells & Industrial Dye degradation) Dr. Vidyasagar C C (born in 1986), currently, working as Assistant Professor in Chemistry at Rani Channamma University, Belgaum.
