ABOUT: The Department of Social Work has been growing from strength to strength right from its inception in the year 2005 as part of the then P.G. Centre of Karnatak University, Dharwad. Presently, the Social Work Programmes offered through its main campus and P.G. Centres in Vijayapura and Jamakhandi have carved a unique niche for themselves in the higher education scenario in the region through its well-qualified faculty, practice-based curriculum, innovative pedagogy, and socially-responsive extension programs. VISION: To be a Centre of academic excellence in Social Work Education by synthesizing teaching, learning, research, and community engagement initiatives in the emerging areas of Social Work practice aimed at promotion of human rights, social justice, inclusive policies and societal wellness. MISSION:

TITLE
MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK (MSW) INTAKE: 60
Scope
Master of Social Work (MSW) is a two-years’ Masters Programme in Social Work. (MSW) is a very unique Programme as its curriculum has a very good blend of theory and practicum. Learners of this Programme get wonderful opportunities to develop their personalities with multidisciplinary perspectives and leadership competencies.
The Specializations offered for the MSW Programme are: i) Human Resource Development (HRD), ii) Urban and Rural Community Development (URCD), iii) Medical and Psychiatric Social Work (MPSW).
Eligibility
Candidates who have passed BSW/BA/B.Sc/B.Com/BCA/BBM/LLB of Rani Channamma University, Belagavi or any other university recognized as equivalent thereto are eligible for admission to MSW course. Candidates will be selected for admission as per the general guidelines issued from the Rani Channamma University, Belagavi from time to time.

The admissions shall be made as per the reservation policy and rules/directions issued by the Government of Karnataka and Rani Channamma University from time to time.

PH.D. IN SOCIAL WORK
The Department of Social Work offers Ph.D. in Social Work in various fields of Social Work such as Social Action, Community Development, Women Empowerment, Inclusive Development, Social Justice, Human Rights and Societal Wellness.
Any candidate who has obtained a Post-Graduate Degree in Social Work or any other relevant subject from a recognized University including foreign students (sponsored by their Embassies) and sponsored candidates securing not less than 55% marks (50% in the case of SC/ST/Cat-I/Physically challenged candidates) at the Post-Graduate Degree shall be eligible to apply for the PhD Degree Programme.
The admission shall be made as per the criteria and procedure laid down in the Regulations Governing the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) of Rani Channamma University, Belagavi.
Every full-time candidate shall take a minimum of three years and maximum of five years, and every part time candidate shall take a minimum of four years and a maximum of six years from the date of Provisional Registration (i.e., from the date of commencement of course work) to submit his/her thesis.

Dr. Ashok Antony D’Souza.- Dr. Ashok Antony D’Souza is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Social Work. He has an excellent blend of theory and practice in the varied fields of Social Work. His multidisciplinary outlook - obtained primarily from his post-graduate degrees in Philosophy, Social Work, Commerce and Management – has enabled him to design and implement a unique praxis of Social Work Education. He has been constantly exploring newer horizons in the areas of Social Action, Inclusive Development and Participatory Democracy through research, consultancy and publications.He has successfully carried out one major and four minor research projects. He has authored four books, edited five books, published over forty research papers in national and international professional journals and conference proceedings, and has contributed seven chapters to various volumes related to social work education and practice.
Dr.Chandrashekar C. Banasode Dr. Chandrashekar C. Banasode is Assistant Professor and Research Guide in the Department of Social Work. He obtained his Masters and Doctoral Degree in Social Work from the Post Graduate Department of Social Work, Karnatak University, Dharwad. He has worked as Co-ordinator for the Karnataka State Commission for Women, Bangalore. He has presented numerous papers at national and international platforms and has authored two books, namely, ‘The Role of Women in Panchayat Raj Institutions’ and ‘Community Organisation in India’. He has also published more forty-eight articles in national and international journals. He has been serving as the member of various BoE of various Universities and Chairman of BOE, Dept of Social Work, Gulbarga University.
Mr. Siddalingeshwar Bidaralli Sri. Siddalingeshwar Bidaralli is Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work and the Coordinator of the P.G. Centre in Bagalkot. He has an admirable combination of theory and practice in the various fields of social work. He is basically creative thinker and student-oriented teacher. His developmental approaches have been found to be helpful to rural, urban and student communities to have the desired changes. He has been constantly exploring newer horizons in the areas of Community Organization and Mental Health through consultancies and publications.
Sri. Santosh L. Patil Dr. Santosh L. Patil is Assistant Professor and Research Guide in the Department of Social Work. He Joined P.G. Department of Social Work during 2012 as Assistant Professor. He has been awarded Doctoral Degree for his thesis entitled “A Study on Quality of Work Life and Its Influence on Employees” from the Department of Social Work, Karnatak University, Dharwad. He has excellent knowledge about the Human Resource Management and his persistent efforts have resulted into the well-established students careers in industrial set up. He is enthusiastic and his research oriented approach has guided students to develop soft skills. He has been constantly working on the better ways to prepare students for HR avenues and also aims to specialising in areas like community development, sustainable development, student counselling and soft skills development. He is being workaholic teacher, shouldering various additional responsibilities apart from teaching likefaculty advisor for Social Work Association and ‘Astitiva: Alumni Association’, co-ordinator for field work and social work camps, etc.He is also member of BOE of Karnatak University, Dharwad, Mangalore University, Mysore University, etc.
Dr. Chidanand Dhavaleshwar Dr. Chidanand U. Dhavaleshwar is Assistant Professor and Local Head of the Department of Social Work in the P.G. Centre, Vijayapura. He has been awarded Doctoral degree for his thesis entitled “A Study on Role of Corporate Social Responsibility Practices of Selected Industries on Community Life in Karnataka” from the Department of Social Work, Karnatak University, Dharwad. He has rich knowledge and expertise in the field of Social Work. He has been rendering his services for the last 08 years. He has 25 research articles to his credit and has presented his papers at National, International and State Level. His areas of interest are Development Studies, Corporate Social Responsibility and Human Resource Management.
Dr. Devata D. Gasti Dr. Devata D. Gasti is Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work. She has completed M.A. Social Work at Karnatak University, Dharwad during 1999, same year cleared UGC-NET. He has been awarded Doctoral Degree for her thesis entitled “Elderly Women in Rural Belagavi: A Social Work Study” from the Department of Social Work, Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. She started her professional journey as a counsellor. As she is passionate of teaching and counselling, she joined university as a teaching faculty. She has published research articles in reputed journals and contributed chapters in books. She has presented research papers at conferences. She is serving as member of Board of Examiners at various universities. She has actively organized various workshop, trainings, programmes etc for students as well as communities.
The Faculty of the Department has successfully completed four Research Projects and three more are under progress. Their areas of research interest are social action, inclusive development, women empowerment, quality of work life, quality of education, individual and societal wellbeing and corporate social responsibility.

‘Sarvodaya’: Social Development Wing: The Department has been conducting several extension activities among the marginalized sections aimed at women empowerment, health care, sustainable agriculture, and quality education. In the recent past the Department has adopted two tribal villages and has been facilitating social development in partnership with governmental and non-governmental organizations.
Seminars/Conferences/Workshops: The Department has been conducting Seminars, Conferences, Workshops and Special Lectures at regular intervals on themes of contemporary relevance.
‘Sahodaya’, Students’ Social Work Association: Students’ Social Work Association, through their elected representatives and guidance of the Faculty, has been conducting various academic, extension and co-curricular activities for the integrated development of MSW students.
‘Astitva’, Alumni Association: The Department has a vibrant Alumni Association which has been helping one another in matters of placement / career advancement and conducting various extension activities of social relevance.
‘Sanchalana’, Counselling and Guidance Cell: The Department has been providing counselling and guidance services to the students of the University in matters pertaining to scholastic, relational and psycho-social issues.
Social Work Camps: The Department has been organizing Social Work Camp for the development of marginalized rural and tribal communities on an annual basis.
Exposure Visits: The Department has been conducting specialization-wise exposure visits for MSW students to renowned companies, hospitals and NGOs in Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkota, Mysore, Mangalore and Manipal.

Collaboration: The Department plans to set new standards in social work research by entering into MoUs with institutes with complementary research expertise so that cutting-edge research knowledge is produced and disseminated in this part of the globe.

Placements: MSW alumni are well-placed in governmental, non-governmental, hospital and corporate sector. Some of them are working in Women and Child Department, Social Welfare Department, KLE Hospital, Infosys Ltd., ITC Ltd., Bosch Ltd, Sneider Ltd, and Aques Pvt Ltd.
Class-rooms of the Department of Social Work are well-equipped with LCD projectors and KYAN - Community Computers. The Departmental Library has very good collection of books and journals pertaining to all the fields of Social Work. There is wi-fi facility made available to all the students. The students are also encouraged to make use of the Computer Labs equipped with high-speed internet facility, LCD projectors and well-qualified staff to assist the users.
