ABOUT: The Post-Graduate Department of Studies in Economics is one of the Founder Departments of Rani Channamma University Belagavi. Actually this Department was established in the year 1982 when the Karnataka University Post Graduate Centre was started in Belagavi. The Department has been one of the leading Social Science Departments in the University ever since its inception by achieving academic excellence and also by providing applied edge to the courses being offered. The Department besides offering a Post-Graduate programme in Economics also offers Ph.D. programmes. In order to meet the increasing demand for higher education in this region, the Department also functions at P.G.Centre, Bagalkot and J.S.S. College, Gokak. From the Academic Year 2020-21 onwards the entire syllabus is revised and up-dated incorporating all the recent developments in the subject. Keeping in view the fact that many of the current developments in economic thinking require background knowledge of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Applications, the papers on Quantitative Techniques, Computer Applications and Basic Econometrics have been introduced as compulsory papers and Project work is made obligatory for all the students at the Final Semester. Since its inception the strength and output of the Department has been growing over the years. VISION: Learning and understanding of Economics is the guiding principle for the development of a society for it facilitates a sustainable and inclusive development of the nation by harnessing the potentialities emerging from the knowledge-based globalizing society for the welfare of mankind. MISSION: To impart quality education in theoretical and applied economics to create a pool of manpower to face the emerging economic challenges effectively with high standards of professionalism and ethics; to promote and facilitate multi-disciplinary research to review and design economic policies at regional and national levels.
TITLE
DEPARTMENT OF STUDIES IN ECONOMICS
Scope
ECONOMICS is the study of the livelihood of people and the welfare of society. In the quest for rising living standards, both the individual and the society at large are constrained by the relatively meagre resources at their disposal. The fundamental purpose of the study of Economics is to form judgments on the way in which society should use its limited resources to achieve a high and improving the standard of living.
Eligibility
Candidates who possess a degree of Rani Channamma University or a Degree of any other university recognized as equivalent there to with Economics/ Agricultural Marketing as one of the subjects, having at least 45% of marks in aggregate at degree level is eligible to apply. However, relaxation in respect of SC/ST/Cat-I will be followed as per prevailing rules of the University and Government Orders from time to time.

The admission shall be made as per the reservation policy and directions issued in this regard from time to time by the Government of Karnataka and also as per rules as prescribed by the University from time to time.

Training in Economics today is an increasingly valuable employment qualification in both the public and private sectors. Companies need people who can see the “big picture”. Economists are sought after in many spheres of business and are especially important to large industry.
Ph.D. IN ECONOMICS
Candidates who have secured at least 55% of aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/Cat-1/Physically challenged) or equivalent grade under grading system, in their Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from the recognized Universities/Institutions.
The admission shall be made as per the reservation policy and guidelines issued by the Government of Karnataka and also as per RCUB from time to time.
Minimum of 03 Years and Maximum of 05 years for Full-Time Candidates/ Minimum 04 Years and Maximum of 06 years for Part-Time Candidates
Prof. D. N. Patil : Professor, is presently working as Professor in Department of Studies in Economics, Rani Channamma University, Belagavi, since 1997.
