ABOUT: The department of Library and Information Science started during the academic year 2011-12 as a new addition to the School of Applied Sciences, RCU Belagavi. The Department offers a professional two years Master’s Degree Programme (MLISc) and a PhD degree programme in Library and Information Science. The MLISc programme designed to match the requirements of academia and industries, imparting knowledge and skill sets required for the emerging information society and preparing the next generation of information professionals. VISION: “Bringing out LIS professionals for Information handling needs of the nation” MISSION: 1. To adapt to core LIS curriculum in a changing environment; 2. To integrate ICT tools and techniques in LIS course; 3. To impart quality in LIS Education and Research; 4. To train & build LIS Professionals for addressing the Frontier Areas of Library and Information Science; 5. To train LIS professionals by organizing training/ workshops Seminars.

M.SC. IN DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE
Scope
Master of Science in Library and Information Science (MLISc) is a two year integrated professional program. There is a great demand for library profession in the job market. MLISc postgraduates get placed as Librarians, Information Scientist, Knowledge Manager, Technical Editors, Consultants, etc. Those who qualify UGC-NET or SLET examination can enter academics as Assistant Professor or Assistant Librarian of a University or College. Those who qualify UGC-JRF can also pursue research in the field of library and information science with UGC fellowship
Eligibility
MLISc course duration is of two years and comprises four semesters. Candidates who have passed any Bachelor’s Degree examination from a recognized university under 10+2+3 system and who have secured at least 50% of marks in aggregate in Part III (main subjects) are eligible to apply for seeking admission to this course. In the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST category, relaxation in the percentage of marks shall be as per the university Guidelines issued from time to time.

PH.D. IN LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE
Candidates who have secured at least 55% of aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/Cat-1/Physically challenged) or equivalent grade under grading system, in their Master Degree examination from the recognized Universities/Institutions
The admission shall be made as per the reservation policy and guidelines issued by the Government of Karnataka and also as per RCUB from time to time.
Minimum of 03 Years and Maximum of 05 years for Full-Time Candidates/ Minimum 04 Years and Maximum of 06 years for Part-Time Candidates.
Prof. Vinayak M. Bankapur: Professor, presently serving as a Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science at Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. He did his Master's degree for Documentation Training and Research Centre (DRTC) Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore in the year 1989 and Ph.D. Library and Information Science from Karnatak University, Dharwad 1998. He has experience of 22 years in Library and Information Science. He was instrumental in framing the Vision and Mission statement for the department of LIS conducting three seminars and edited three books. He has to his credit 60 research articles published in national and international journals/conferences /Seminars. He is good at Infographics and won 2nd prize in IOS Conference held in 2017 in Bangalore. He is also the Chief Editor of the Journal of Library Development. He is a Life Member of SIS, Members of AKLEPA, and member of IATLIS, Institute of Scientometrics (IS), a member of the ILA. He is creative has contributions in developing Digital Libraries and Architecture. His areas of specialisationareScientometrics, Observometrics, and Management of Library and Information Centres. He has delivered a special lecture in Universities and Institutions on the various facets of Library and Information Science in Refresher Courses held at Bangalore University, Goa University, and the University of Mysore (UOM). Other activities in the University - he is a nodal officer for Developing University Website and created webmail for all faculty members. He is the nodal officer for the National Academic Depository (NAD), University Librarian, and Academic Council Member of the university. He is the founder of HUDALNET.
Dr. Kiran P. Savanur, Dr. Kiran P. Savanur is currently Chairman and Associate Professor at the Department of Studies & Research in Library and Information Science at Rani Channamma University in Belagavi. Prior to this, he worked as a Digital Library trainee at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bengaluru and a Library Assistant at Raman Research Institute in Bengaluru, which was founded by Sir C. V. Raman. Dr. Savanur is originally from Dharwad District in Karnataka State. He completed his undergraduate degree in science and his postgraduate degree in Library & Information Science from Karnatak University in Dharwad. He has also undergone a training program in "Information and Knowledge Management" (IKM) at the National Centre for Science Information (NCSI) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru. Dr. Kiran Savanur was awarded a PhD by Karnatak University, Dharwad for his research work on "Eugene Garfield: A Biobibliometric Study". He has extensive teaching experience at the post-graduate level. Dr. Savanur has authored over 30 research articles, published in national and international peer-reviewed and UGC CARE-listed journals, and 40 research papers presented and published in national and international seminars, conferences, workshops and book chapters. As a Resource Person, he has delivered over 50 special and invited lectures in HRDC centres, conferences, seminars, and workshops. Under his supervision, three research scholars have been awarded a doctoral degree, and three research scholars are currently pursuing a doctoral degree under his guidance. He has conducted two Minor Research Projects (worth Rs. 2,25,000) that were funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research, New Delhi and the Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Board (PMEB), Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. He has also completed a Short-term Empirical Collaborative Research Project, titled “An Evaluative Study of the Implementation of National Education Policy 2020 in the Higher Educational Institutions in Karnataka” with funding Rs. 5,00,000 from the ICSSR, New Delhi. He was awarded the "Best Research Paper" at the National Conference on Scientometrics and Knowledge Management held at Karnatak University, Dharwad in April 2013. He is a life member of professional organizations such as the Karnataka Library Association (KALA), the Indian Library Association (ILA), and the Indian Association of Teachers in Library and Information Science (IATLIS).
Dr. Ramesh B. Kuri, Dr. Ramesh B. Kuri obtained a Master's degree from Karnatak University, Dharwad, and an M.Phil from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Hyderabad. He cleared the UGC-National Eligibility Test (NET) in Library and Information Science in the year 2009 and was conferred with a doctoral degree (Ph.D) in Library and Information Science from Rani Channamma University, Belagavi, in the year 2020. With an academic experience of more than ten years, he has served at prestigious institutions such as the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, as a library trainee in TATA Memorial Library, and as a 'Project Assistant' in the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry (IPC). He has also worked with academic institutions like Jain College of Engineering and Management, Belagavi, as a 'Librarian' and Karnatak University, Dharwad, as a guest Assistant Librarian. Dr. Kuri is passionate about research and has published 65 research papers in national and international peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, and edited books. He has been awarded one short-term project on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, with funding of Rs. 5,00,000/- and two minor research projects funded (worth Rs. 2,75,000/-) by the Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Board (PMEB), Rani Channamma University, Belagavi. Furthermore, Dr. Kuri has been a resource person for schools, colleges, and university departments on topics of IPR, web resources, search techniques, Library automation, QR technology and libraries, Reference Management tools, etc. He has organized national conferences, seminars, and workshops for PG and Ph.D. students, and has moderated and chaired technical sessions. Additionally, he held responsibilities such as Assistant Registrar (Evaluation) for three years and Department Coordinator of IQAC for three years. The Department of Library and Information Science under mutual understanding with the Department of Computer Science of our university dedicated computer and network infrastructure to support its Academics and Research. The network has a backbone operating at 2Gbps and spans the entire building to provide network services (both switched and Wi-Fi) to all the Departments in the University. There are 65 Computers with state-of-art specifications connected to the network accommodated with printing needs. Classrooms and laboratories are well equipped with LCD projectors and two smart boards. A department library setup for students.
